The Qur’an is the Word of Allah. Its recitation must be taken very seriously and a great deal of care and attention should be taken by the reciter. The purpose of the Science of Tajwid, in essence, is to make the reciter proficient in reciting the Qur’an in the most perfect and beautiful manner as it should be recited. This includes observing rules specific to reciting the Qur’an and correct pronunciation of each and every letter with the rulings and characteristics that apply to it, and doing so without any mistakes by way of exaggeration or deficiency. It also prevents the reciter from making major mistakes in recitation which may at times even alter the meaning in a way that will affect their prayers.

At Madrasatun Noor we provide a structured course where a student can build his/her recitation skills as well as maintain fluency on their daily readings of the Qur’an under a qualified instructor who has been granted authorisation (ijaza) in the science.

The course consists of 3 levels with approximately 12-13 weeks of lessons per level. Completion of each level is followed up with an assessment and a 1-2 week break.

Course Insight

TAJWID LEVEL 1: READING PRACTICE

Introducing beginners to the correct pronunciation and recognition of letters ensuring students are able to construct basic short sentences while building up the fluency to progress towards reciting the Qur’an. Students will go through either the complete Qa’ida or parts of it based on their personal capabilities.

TAJWID LEVEL 2: RULES & THEIR APPLICATION

The main focus will be on learning and implementing the rules of Tajwid. Suitable for anyone who has studied Tajwid before, even at a basic level. Students will read directly from the Qur’an and be taught with the aid of other resources.

TAJWID LEVEL 3: ADVANCED RECITATION & MEMORISATION

Focusing on developing the student’s ability to recite a greater number of Surahs with Tajwid as well as increasing fluency in reading the Qur’an correctly. Students will be required to start memorising selected surahs.
